John Murgatroyd

John Murgatroyd is an enterprising production executive with extensive experience creating and producing compelling stories, television broadcasts and digital programming.

John has an absolute love for storytelling and wholeheartedly believes in Lucie’s model of “Create Your News.” He’s witnessed over the years how good storytelling not only informs and helps us to understand one another, but evokes emotion and inspires us to act.

Prior to joining Lucie, John worked at CNN where he spent the majority of his 20+ years at the network traveling the country and producing award winning stories and national news coverage. He received a Peabody Award for ongoing production during Hurricane Katrina and the storm’s aftermath. He relocated to the Gulf Coast for four months to produce an hour-long documentary on the Gulf Oil Spill. The production was a key factor in earning another Peabody Award for CNN’s overall coverage of the oil spill. John was also the recipient of two Emmys for election night coverage in 2012 and coverage of the death of George Floyd in 2021. Before leaving CNN, John was the Director of Coverage for the network’s Southeast Bureau where he co-led a creative team of producers and on-air talent in generating, producing and telling news and feature stories as well as digital text and video content.

John was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He’s a very proud graduate of Ohio University and a diehard Cleveland Browns fan. He lives in the East Cobb area of metro Atlanta with his wife, daughter and dog Jack.
